“The Baku Declaration on the Recognition, Safeguarding, and Transmission of the Heritage of Pastoralist Transhumance”
Adopted at the Transhumance Expert Conference:
The Transhumance Initiative is led by ICOMOS with the financial support of the State Tourism Agency of the Republic of Azerbaijan, and aims to raise awareness of the heritage values of transhumance. Engaging diverse organisations working with transhumant pastoralism, and diverse disciplines, researchers, and practitioners, the 28 conference attendees with two attending online, discussed the potential for recognition and sustainability of transhumance landscapes.
Elizabeth Brabec, ISCCL President, and Maya Ishizawa, ISCCL Secretary General, were in Baku for the conference, Maya as a Project Core Expert, and Elizabeth representing the ISCCL. Jessica Brown, ISCCL expert member, also a Project Core Expert, joined online to discuss the wording of the Declaration.
