The recognition of the 20th century cultural heritage is relatively recent. While its recognition extends to built structures (e.g. the Sydney Opera House), cultural landscapes of the 20th century are seldom identified and therefore included within protection and management systems. Many 20 the century cultural landscapes are threatened or have been damaged or lost.
The working group which is working closely with the ICOMOS International Scientific Committee on 20th Century Heritage, aims to develop tools and guidelines to identify, interpret and manage important cultural landscapes of the modern era.
